Coaching Staff - Jake Warren
Hello La Maquina Team and Parents:
I first began playing soccer in 1978 in Vancouver for Little Mountain. My father, who was my first coach, had been taking me to White Caps games at Empire Stadium and knew I would enjoy playing the game he had loved since his youth. Coming from a family who had always been involved in sports such as baseball and tennis, it was natural for me to also be drawn to the beautiful game. After my first season with LM I moved with my Mother to Victoria where I joined Gorge FC Div 8. Under the guidance of a great Coach Danny Van Gilswick, I played for Gorge for the next 5 years, growing to not only love the physical aspect of the game but the tactical side as well. I was always a thinking player and a vocal player - maybe not as skilled as the other boys - but confident in my understanding of how the game should be played. To this day I feel on-field communication is essential for any team to play well together.
When my knees gave out in 1985, after a trip south to a huge tournament in California, I decided I could no longer compete at the level of league play I was used to. I was sad to leave the game but continued to follow European Leagues and of course the World Cup.
Many years later now, I have chosen to help coach La Maquina with my long time friend Dave del Castillo and his second-in-command Roberto - and I couldn't be happier. It has always been a goal of mine to one day coach and now it's a reality. The boys we have playing are a great group of young athletes. They are discovering a love for the game that has brought me much joy in life and I am excited to see them learning more and more every day.
We're off to a great start this season and with the right work ethic and heart, La Maquina will continue to excel. I look forward to speaking with all the parents as the season progresses. Any questions, please feel free to ask, anytime.
Thank you.
All the Best
